A Christmas Thought

Christmas was such a special time for my family. We were taught the real meaning of why it was celebrated and we knew it didn’t just mean getting presents. My father would open up the Bible and read to us the story of the birth of Christ. We were taught that Jesus was born on this day and we were to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior.

Now that Christmas season is upon us, I reminisce about being younger and going into large department stores where I stood in awe at all the Christmas decorations. Dad would give me $5.00 to buy presents for my sister, brother, mother and him! I usually ended up going into the Woolworth’s dime store where there were real bargains and I could actually get four presents for my $5.00!

Today I still enjoy going into large department stores and being with those who are hustling and bustling to buy just the right present for a loved one. There are so many items to choose from, and the stores are overflowing with things that could bring a smile upon a loved one’s face on that magical Christmas morning. Each present bought would hopefully be remembered and cherished and not forgotten and thrown away!

When Christ was born He also was thinking of those He loved and the special gift He wanted to give. He wanted His gift to be remembered and cherished forever. His gift was not a ‘thing’ that came in a box where you would tear away the decorative paper, open it up and see what was inside. His gift was and is today eternal life. It is given to all who will seek Him, believe in Him, trust in Him and follow Him.

I wonder what the Lord would think if all the hustling and bustling that is being done this Christmas season would instead be for Him. What if all desired to come to Him and receive the greatest gift of all? I believe our Lord would rejoice.

I pray you have a blessed Christmas.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour which is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:11 KJV)
